A paradise
The concept of paradise has been an important one throughout history. Its significance is in its ability to make human existence meaningful and bearable even though it is always temporary. Paradise is a place of perfect peace and prosperity. It is a location that is outside of normal historical time and is therefore immune to crime, sickness or death. It is also a place that is populated by eternally young and healthy people.
Paradise is described in many different ways from the Garden of Eden of the Bible to the lush Pacific Ocean islands of novels and Gauguin's paintings. It is even visible in the present due to the rise of communes and the growing interest in gardening and outdoor living. The term utopia, actually, invokes images of paradise. While not all utopias are based on religion however, they usually include motifs from paradise and are designed to realize some of the characteristics of paradise under actual conditions.
The word"paradise" can have multiple meanings however, they all refer to the state or condition that is awe-inspiring and enthralling. It could also be a place that is ideal for a particular activity or hobby. For instance golfers' paradise or an hummingbird’s paradise. In a religious context it could be a reference to heaven, the abode of the righteous after death.
The word"paradise" is used in a variety of languages, but its roots are in Avestan, an ancient Iranian language. The word"pairidaeza" comes from the roots pairi "around" and daeza "wall". It was later adapted to Greek as paradise and used in Hebrew and other Aramaic Scriptures.
In the Bible, the Garden of Eden is paradise. It was a beautiful spot where the first couple lived, unaffected of disease and death. When they rebelled against God and sinned they lost their paradise. In later Bible prophecies, heaven is seen as a place in the eschatological future, where a happy humanity can live forever. The term "paradise" is used to describe the state of mind or spiritual that is full of joy and happiness.
